What Happened To Me
It was a Saturday in October.
My wife and I went to watch our teenage son play basketball. We had family with us, so we drove separately.
After the game, I took the boys home. My wife stopped at a local sub shop to pick up lunch.
She pulled out of the parking lot and stopped at a busy intersection. That's when she heard a horn.
A split second later, an 18-wheeler rear-ended her.
The police officer gave my wife a ticket.
Not the truck driver.
It took some doing, but we finally found a lawyer. She said she'd review our case.
A few weeks later, the city attorney dismissed the ticket. We thought everything was going to be okay.
Then we stopped hearing from our lawyer.
Every time we called, we got voicemail.
One day, a letter showed up in the mail. Our lawyer had decided to drop our case.
We still had a damaged car.
And no lawyer.
You don't think you'll ever need one.
Until you do.
What happens when you need a lawyer…
…and you can't get one?
